Here’s a 5min. video showing my approach to working with a company.

Unlimited Coaching – Is it right for you?

Why Work With a Coach?

A coach helps you perform at your best. Superstars in many fields have coaches from athletics, to actors, to business owners. Here are some of the ways I help my clients:

  • Accountability. As business owners, we don’t have a boss. Isn’t that the point? Yes, but have you ever had a really great idea that gets lost in the shuffle of daily problems? A coach can hold you accountable to your best ideas.
  • Time. I help clients be more effective and less stressed in the 24 hours a day we all have.
  • Clarify your thinking. A coach is a confidante and a sounding board with no agenda other than your success.
  • I do NOT have a magic wand. I help you work better (and often less) but I don’t do the work for you. If you’re not willing to change what you do and how you do it when you show up at work, this program is not for you.

Why Work With Me?

I was part of the founding team of the International Coach Federation and served as their third president in 1998. I was one of the first group of people to receive the MCC (Master Certified Coach) certification. I’ve been working with business owners since 1994. But I’ve also been in the trenches. I’ve literally never had a job – always had a company since my first one in 1979 (it was a waterbed store in Ft. Collins Colorado).

And I’m also a consultant and have been a business owner. I’ve built companies and worked with many others who have. So I know what works in the real world and what doesn’t. More of my background can be found here. You’ll see about me running a company 1,500 miles away from my home and my experience as an angel investor working with startups.

Why Now?

How long do you want to wait for change? The answer is up to you. It’s like they say about planting trees or investing. The best time to do it is 20 years ago. The second best time is today.

How Does Coaching Work?

We’ll schedule times to talk by phone. Sessions usually last 30-60 minutes. After that you’ll be tired of hearing my voice and want to go back to work – so I’m pretty motivational [grin]. Each session starts with an agenda, and ends with scheduling our next call plus an agreement by you to take some actions in the meantime.

Often we’ll need to share screens so we can use a video call service. Zoom.us is my preferred one at the moment. Feel free to record any of the sessions if you wish.

It’s best if we are both at a computer when we talk so we can look at documents in real time together (more of that below). I’ll generally post my notes within a day or so after the call. But you can post yours as well.

The First Call

Our first call is about you and your goals. Not just what you want for your business but what you want from your business for your life. Until we know that we won’t know what direction to build your company in. My 20 Questions activity can be done before our first call (and sent to me for review) to speed things up. If you’d prefer to wait, we can do it together on the phone.

After that, calls typically follow a similar pattern. We’ll set goals and review progress once a quarter. In between we’ll work on issues and celebrate victories as they arise. Each company’s path is different but that’s the general pattern.

We typically cover these topics:

  • Being a better leader – and delegating better.
  • Hiring and Managing People
  • Making more sense of your numbers
  • Building a scalable sales force
  • Succession planning and exit strategy

Terms

  • The cost is $2,500 per quarter paid in advance
  • We’ll talk as often as you want. Based on my schedule availability. I’ll even facilitate sessions with your team if that’s appropriate.
  • You will set up a video call and host it for screen sharing
  • You can record the calls if you want, keep the recording and do what you want with them subject to same limitations as IP – just your company, no sale or give away.
    • If you want me to host the calls and send you the videos, I can do that. There’s an extra charge and you’ll have a time limit to download them before they’re gone.

Online

Plan to be at a computer with internet access for most of our calls. We’ll establish a place where we can share data and documents and even share screens when that’s useful. Details of what we’ll need online are here.

Changes in Your Schedule

I’ll expect you to spend at least 2 hrs a week working ON your business. I’ll help you plan that time. (Our calls can be counted as a part of that time even though we won’t be talking that much.)

The Meter Is NOT Running

I don’t believe you can always plan when you need support or advice. That’s why we’ll schedule times to talk as often as you need (subject to availability, of course). Scheduling helps us both prepare. I prefer to work normal business hours (Eastern time) in the middle of the week.  But I know that doesn’t always cut it.

So when things go sideways I’m available for emails or short calls between sessions. Emails are preferred for two reasons. One is writing helps you think and the request is clearer. Also I do have other clients and other commitments so I can respond when I’m free. But feel free to call if there’s fire or blood.

How can I provide unlimited access? Frankly if you’re running a business, you won’t have time to talk to me too much. If either of us feels the arrangement isn’t working out we just won’t renew the next quarter.

Want to see if this could work for you? We won’t know till we have a chat. Give me a call. +1 203-775-6676 (I’m on Eastern Time in the US – but I’ve worked with companies from The Netherlands to California).

Or send an email.
